Orchestrating a move can be quite an arduous and stressful process. It is always best to begin organizing your belongings beforehand as leaving things until the last minute will invariably lead to added stress. This is especially crucial if you have a number of antique and fragile items in your possession that you would want relocated in one piece. Generally, if you would like to be guaranteed a seamless moving process, then it is always best to enlist the services of professional removalists. However, there are some homeowners who may prefer to enlist these services merely for transportation of their belongings and choose to engage in the packing of their items on their own. If you choose to go down this path, here are some of the considerations that you should have when moving with antique items.

Considerations for antique breakable items

Any breakable items that are in your possession should be carefully wrapped in bubble wrap before they are placed in their respective moving boxes. For added protection, you should line the moving boxes with newspapers and additional bubble wrap. This provides extra cushioning for your items. It should be noted though that breakables do not simply comprise items made from ceramics or glass. Antique wooden items also have the propensity of breaking if not handled correctly during a move. For these heavier breakables, you could provide extra cushioning by including towels in their moving boxes.

Considerations for antique hollow items

Another category of fragile items that you would have to consider is hollow belongings. If not stored appropriately in the moving boxes, they could be crushed from the external pressure of other items that have been packed along with them. For hollow items, always ensure that they have been stuffed with either some bubble wrap or scrunched up newspapers. Additionally, before packing hollow items, put some Styrofoam peanuts in their moving boxes. This will provide them with the extra support they need to remain intact. You could also consider reinforcing the packing boxes of these items by placing them in another box as this will provide additional protection.

Considerations for antique mirrors and paintings

If you have antique mirrors or painting, it is best to invest in special boxes for them. These will typically be flat and can be adjusted according to the size of the mirrors or paintings you are relocating. Additionally, purchase some corner protectors for these items. These will help cushion the corners of the paintings or mirrors while they are in their special boxes. FOr assistance, talk to professional removalists.
