If you're packing for your next move, you might think that packing is the biggest thing you need to do. After all, furniture can be moved just the way it is. Unfortunately, that's not actually the case. If you've hired a removalist, you need to make sure that the furniture is ready to be moved. Waiting until the last minute, or failing to prep your furniture at all, can cause serious problems on your  moving day. Now that you've hired a removalist, here are four steps you need to take to get your furniture ready for moving. These steps can streamline the moving process, and safeguard your furniture.

Make Sure Furniture is Clean

When it comes to preparing your furniture for the removalist, the first thing you need to do is get things cleaned. Furniture should be clean prior to moving. This is especially important if your furniture will be put into storage before you move into your new place. Cleaning your furniture will help to avoid odours, prevent pest infestations and protect wood surfaces.

Disassemble Your Furniture

Once you have your furniture clean and ready for the removalists, you want to take care of the disassembling. You might think that you can leave your furniture as is, but that's not the case. You actually need to disassemble your furniture as much as possible. Disassembling your furniture will make it easier to move. It will also help to protect your furniture from damage. First, be sure to remove the legs from your tables, desks, and end tables. Next, remove the drawers from your desks, end tables, and dressers. Finally, disassemble any bookshelves you might have. Disassembling your bookshelves will leave more room in the trucks.

Package the Loose Parts

Now that you've disassembled your furniture, you want to package the loose parts. Furniture parts should be packaged together, and labelled appropriately. If you've disassembled any electronic devices, be sure to label the cords and accessories. Once those items are packaged and labelled, attach them to the appropriate electronic device. That way, everything can be reassembled once you get to your new home.

Wrap Your Furniture

Finally, if you're preparing for the removalists, don't forget to wrap your furniture. There are a couple of ways you can do that. You can use padded furniture covers to protect against damage. You can also wrap your furniture with plastic packing wrap. Both methods will protect your furniture from getting damaged during the move.
